The CANdapter is the CANBUS to USB device used to connect the computer to the CANBUS network (all communication with the BMS takes place over CANBUS). Without this adapter the computer would not be able to communicate with the BMS.
There are several reasons that could cause the CANdapter to not be found by the computer. Here are the most common:
The CANdapter may not be connected to the computer USB port. Check that the USB cable is connected to the CANdapter and the computer.
There may be another application running that is using the CANdapter. An example might be another instance of the BMS utility that is already running on the computer. The CANdapter can only be used by one application at a time and only one copy of the utility can use the CANdapter at a time.
The CANdapter may not be being recognized by the operating system. In other words, the hardware driver may not be installed properly or may be missing on the computer. Make sure your computer operating system is up to date. Some operating systems provide a troubleshooting process for unrecognized hardware which can be used to install the proper driver. Otherwise the CANdapter driver can also be downloaded from www.candapter.com
The USB port that the CANdapter is plugged into may be bad or not powered. Try unplugging the CANdapter from the USB port and plugging it back in. The two LEDs (red and green) should flash 3 times quickly to indicate that the CANdapter is powered and ready to go. If these LEDs do not blink try plugging it in to another USB port or another computer to determine if it is the adapter or the USB port that is not working properly.
